JAPTUBE: A Japanese-inspired Air
Video Competition is an air
JAPTUBE video competition that aims to challenge the creativity and / or "oppressed" abilities of Japanese language and culture enthusiasts in creating their own Japanese-inspired music videos, or in mimicking Japanese music videos. This competition is one of the events of JAP FUN: Explorasyon and Celebration of Japanese Language and Culture - the Japanese Month celebration of the Department of Linguistics, CSSP, UP Diliman, in cooperation with the Japan Foundation Manila.

COMPETITION MECHANICS
1. This competition is open to all Japanese language and culture enthusiasts all-over the Greater Manila Area.
2. Entries (music videos) should run from 3 TO 5 MINUTES only, and should be in MPEG or AVI FORMATS.
3. Music videos must contain the theme JAPANESE. They should be Japanese-inspired or contain anything related to the Japanese language, Japanese culture, Japanese society, and so on.
4. Music videos may be in, but NOT LIMITED TO, the following forms:
a. A mimic of an existing Japanese music video;
b. An original music video of a Japanese song (J-pop, anime theme song, enka, etc.);
c. An original music video of a non-Japanese song, but the music video must contain something Japanese, e.g., actors are in cosplay, setting is in a Japanese restaurant, etc.

SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES
1. Music videos should be in MPEG or AVI FORMATS, burned to a CD.
2. All entries should be submitted on or before 18 JULY 2008, 5 PM, to the DEPARTMENT OF LINGUISTICS, FACULTY CENTER 2110, UP DILIMAN, QUEZON CITY.
3. Entries should be submitted together with:
a. the NAME of the ENTRY SENDER or GROUP REPRESENTATIVE,
b. the CONTACT DETAILS (mobile and landline numbers, e-mail address, mailing address) of the entry sender or group representative,
c. the AFFILIATION of the entry sender or group (school, company, or organization),
d. a list of the music video CAST AND STAFF, and
e. a ONE PARAGRAPH DESCRIPTION of the music video (in Filipino, English, or Japanese).
4. All entries will become property of the Department of Linguistics, College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, University of the Philippines Diliman.

JAPTUBE PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD VOTING MECHANICS
1. All entries will be uploaded to YouTube.com on 21 JULY 2008 for public viewing.
2. Search tags for JAPTUBE entries are: , , . ,
3. Voting for the People’s Choice Award may be done through www.japfun2008.blogspot.com, every 8-10 PM of 21-24 JULY 2008.
4. The People’s Choice Award will be determined by the biggest number of votes online.
5. Announcement of winners is on 25 JULY 2008, 4 PM at the CSSP AVR (Palma Hall 207).

BEST JAPTUBE VIDEO CRITERIA FOR JUDGING
(1) Content 50%
a) ‘Japanese-ness’ of the music video
b) Creativity and originality of concepts and ideas
(2) Production 30%
a) Visual aesthetics (appearance of the video)
b) Cinematography (quality of the audio, lighting, camerawork)
c) Creativity and resourcefulness (in terms of props)
(3) Final Product 20%
a) Cohesiveness
b) Overall video quality

The Judges’ decision is final and unappealable.

Winners will receive trophies, cash prizes, and gift packages.
